Best of the Best Review by Frank
I got this razor just today. I like the Merkur 38C because of the length of the handle, weight of the razor and ease of changing blades. The barber pole style handle makes a good gripping surface. The chrome finish cleans up very easily. I also own the Merkur 23C but had to buy a 38C because It has a good heavy weight; looks and feels like it should last a lifetime. I definitely recommend Merkur razors and the Grooming Lounge team.
Confortable Shave Review by Mr. Close shave
I've used a Gillette razor with three blades for years and I at the time I thought I was getting the best shave, well you guest it right, I was wrong. I decided to make a change, so I researched various razors and the Merkur brand kept popping up. So I purchased this razor and it was love after the first shave. Before after my first shave I would have a five o'clock shadow the next day, now those days are a thing of the past. The razor has a nice weight, balance, so just let it do the work for you. After your first shave you will have a better feel for handling, I nicked myself during my first shave and after that I have not had any cuts, it's very safe and comfortable, I look forward to shaving. Do yourself a favor a purchase this product.....
Beyond Expectations Review by The Blue Gentleman
This is the first safety razor I've used, so it's hard for me to compare to others. What I can say is this: I had previously been using a 5-blade Gillette Fusion Proglide, which had worked well, but I wanted to try a change. So I decided to give this a try. I heard safety razors gave a closer shave at greater risk of cutting and maybe a little extra discomfort. First statement true, second false.
I couldn't believe how comfortable it was to use this razor, so long as I used it's own weight without applying my own pressure. My first shave, I barely had an nicks on me, and absolutely none the second and third time. An unexpected bonus was that the shaving rash I usually got from my Gillette cartridge was completely absent with this.
I have slightly larger hands, so the long handle was definitely the way to go for me, and the heavy body helped by allowing the weight of the razor do most of the work for me. Overall it's a great quality razor, perhaps a bit pricier than some others on here, but well worth it. I now enjoy my shaves much more, not only due to the comfort of it, but for the feeling of ceremony that comes with it to. Although, that's just me. Also, my face has never felt so smooth after a shave.
A great blade does a great shave! Review by MestreZ
The handle could be longer, because after using the shaving oil (GL of course), it turns sleepy and it's a little bit difficult to handle. So, now I use my left hand for the oil, and my right hand to manage the razor. Great blade, perfect angle, nice weight, quality and beautiful design!
Great starter safety razor Review by Mikhail
If you're thinking about doing a wet shave and moving on past a Gilette, this is a great start. The long handle make it feel more like a modern razor and help you ease into using a safety razor properly.
Great DE Razor Review by Mr C
A friend told me about wet shaving, being an American of African decent, I was skeptical. I realize why he is a great friend, the Merkur 38c gives me the best shaves I have ever had. NO RAZOR BUMPS, of course you must pre/post shave well but this razor has proved to be living up to all the hype. I would recommend ASTRA blades for this razor.
Outstanding! Review by hiendtime
Got lucky as this was my first DE razor. Problem is all the razors I've purchased since have been a huge disappointment. Much nicer fit, finish and shave quality than the Jagger de89. I also have the Merkur HD 34C which I really like but I prefer the longer handle and more elegant design of the 38C. Better quality than the Parker 99R as well. However, the Parker is acceptable if you can get one without the imperfections inherent with its cast parts. In summary, buy this razor and don't look back! Happy shaving...
Great Razor Review by KG
This razor is a wonderful shaver. I upgraded from the Merkur adjustable to this fixed blade. It is easy to operate and even easier to clean. A great razor if your first or if graduating to a fixed blade.
sweet razor! Review by Frank
Merkur knows how to make safety razors and this one is a superb example - with a quality blade and good prep you'll get a super close and smooth shave. The length of the handle and it's heft make it easy to use, and it's spiraled knurling make it a really nice looking piece to top it off. I've converted to DE razors a few years ago and haven't looked back at expensive cartridges since. It'll last you generations of use if maintained correctly, totally worth the money.
smooth shave Review by walter
I would recommend a safety razor to any man dealing with razor bumps, ingrown hairs or razor burn. This razor gives a smooth clean shave. As a African American Male this razor has been a blessing to me. I don't have to shave everyday. My job requires that I am clean shaven and this razor has done the job.
Decent razor, not long handled. Review by Robert
I decided upon this product because of its title: Merkur Long Handled Safety Razor. Trust me, the handle is not long, especially if you're a giant like me. Easy install off blades, feels decently heavy in your hands... great for beginners. Blade too far from the edge for my tastes. Price to me is on the high end. I don't mind paying more for quality products, but 55 tickets is a little steep. On the positive side, it did just give my gravely italian beard the closest shave I've had in a good while. Very safe shave... contoured edge feels nice on your skin. I hope this review helps.
Closest Shave Yet!! Review by Mitch
The weight of this razor gives the perfect angle for the closest shave. I've tried a few others and this one really gets the job done...all Merkur are great, but this is perfect for me.
