It was invented in 1941 by Jack Morgan and was first served up in his Los Angeles pub called the Cock’n Bull. According to legend, the Moscow Mule was born out of a need to get rid of the pub’s surplus of Smirnoff Vodka and cases of Ginger Beer. At the time, the Cock’n Bull patrons weren’t feeling either of these ingredients. In fact, Americans weren’t really big vodka drinkers until Moscow Mule lovers started requesting the stuff. Smirnoff Vodka became known as the authentic pour for a proper Moscow Mule.
