10 Questions With Bob Mah, Founder Of urth Skincare For Men

For more than 10 years, urth Skin Solutions have been helping men look and feel their best via great grooming products and education.  They’re a true small and independent business that is great to work with because you can always get the Founder, Bob Mah, on the phone for his take on products, services or the state of men’s grooming.  So, that’s just what we did.  Got the main man behind urth on the horn and got him to spill the beans on all things urth, movies and men’s grooming.

 

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE MEN’S GROOMING/URTH BUSINESS?

I started urth 10 years ago with the idea of creating a product line for men that smells great and delivers effective results.  I found my bathroom stocked with products that either smelled great, but weren’t effective or vice versa.  I felt they shouldn’t be mutually exclusive.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST PRODUCT AND WHAT ARE YOUR MOST POPULAR PRODUCTS?

I launched the line with four products which I felt were essential to a man’s daily/weekly self care ritual.  Face Wash, Shave Formula, Scrub, and Face Balm SPF 15.  Urth’s hero products are the Face Wash and the Scrub.  Both products have won many grooming awards and have received great reviews from our customers.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE NON-URTH GROOMING PRODUCTS?

It’s definitely Aveda hair care products… shampoo + styling products.  Their hair care products are gentle and smell terrific.   I also have to give Grooming Lounge a nod for their terrific products.

 

WHAT DRIVES YOU TO MAKE URTH THE BEST IT CAN BE?

I want to create a quality products that give our users the best experience from the smell, feel and efficacy of the products.  A good product is a product that they look forward to reaching for daily.  That’s always my goal.

 

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TWO GROOMING TIPS FOR THE MODERN MAN?

For skin care, men should use a good quality gentle cleanser that cleanses and nourishes the skin without stripping the skin of it’s natural oils.  Also, exfoliation is key, either daily or 2-3 times a week depending on the scrub product you use.

Non-skin related, I’d say a good haircut goes a long way.  I tell people this all the time.  I get my haircut every 3-4 weeks to look my best.

 

WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?

One aspect of my job I love is finding inspiration / creating / developing new products and putting our point of view into the products we produce.

 

WHAT’S THE FUTURE OF MEN’S GROOMING PRODUCTS IN YOUR OPINION?

I believe we’re still in the early stages of men’s grooming renaissance. There will be a shift from the idea of pampering to the idea that a healthy grooming ritual / appearance is an important part of a healthy lifestyle.  Men are becoming more and more savvy about products and will demand efficacy-driven products.  The market will expand with products that are solution driven with multiple benefits.

 

WHAT’S NEXT FOR URTH?

We’re really working hard on developing new products to compliment our existing product line in skincare as well as expand into hair and body care.  Coming up in 2018 will be an Eye Cream, Replenishing Complex, Serum, Toner, in skincare.  We are also currently testing a Shampoo + Conditioner combo and a Body Wash.

 

FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME?

I am a sucker for Action / Spy movies so I love all the Jason Bourne movies.
