CREATING AN OIL EMBARGO
TIPS & SUGGESTIONS FOR TAMING OILY SKIN
Feeling a bit slick? Forehead or face giving off a distinct shine? Got large visible pores and a few choice blackheads? Breakouts pretty common? If you just said yes a bunch of times – congratulations – you’re the proud owner of some oily skin. Now that your condition has been confirmed, here’s what to do about it.
FIRST, REALIZE IT’S PRETTY COMMON AND THERE ARE UPSIDES
More than 30% of men believe they have “oily skin” or just “too much oil.” So… rest easy as you’re not alone. That said, despite the bad rap oily skin gets, there are indeed some upsides, chief amongst them that oily skin is less prone to early signs of aging. It seems that a little extra bit of skin saturation helps keep mature dermis supple.
SECOND, DON’T MAKE THE PROBLEM WORSE
If you have oily skin, don’t exacerbate the problem by over-cleansing/scrubbing, aggressively zit-popping or chowing down on real greasy foods. Instead, refer to the helpful tips below and stick to a proven skincare regimen. Your skin’s appearance and your confidence will be the better for it.
TIPS AND TRICKS
Follow A Plan:
Follow a consistent skincare regimen that includes Cleansing, Toning, Moisturizing & Exfoliating as outlined in our Skinformation Central section.
Say No To Bar Soap:
Cheaply sourced bar soaps from the $1.99 rack will dry out faces, leading skin to overreact and actually produce more oil. Instead of that Irish Spring, pick up and use a targeted facial cleanser.
Wash & Moisturize On The Regular:
Grime needs to be removed both before bed and in the morning. Same goes for applying a moisturizer, as doing so will normalize the skin to a set routine, thus tricking that dermis into not under or over-producing additional oil.
Avoid Greasy Foods:
No need to swear off the potato chips completely—but do restrict the amount of greasy calories deposited into your belly. Look for foods or supplements with Vitamin A or Zinc and incorporate them into a balanced diet. These help to regulate skin turnover and reduce oily breakouts.
Don't Become The King Of Pop:
While quite invigorating, randomly popping your own pimples can lead to bad outcomes, such as infections and potential scaring. If you can't wait it out or wear a mask, pop away after a warm shower, which will ensure the face is clean and soft for "extraction".
CLEAN IT UP FABIO:
Men with longer hair really need to clean their hair pre-bed, as dirt and oil buildup easily transitions from hair to pillowcase to face.
