Great appearance but disappointing quality Review by William
I have owned and used the Acqua Di Parma Shaving Brush & Stand for nearly two years. While I have always been very pleased with the quality of the multitude of Acqua Di Parma products that I have purchased over the past 15 years or so, I have been very disappointed with regard to this shaving brush and its accompanying razor.
I did not mind spending the extra money for what I considered to be one of the most impressive-looking shaving brushes that I have yet seen. The craftsmanship with regard to the appearance and feel of the brush handle is superb and commensurate with what I would expect for a nearly--$400 shaving brush from Acqua Di Parma.
However, to begin, I believe that--at this price point--there is absolutely no reason why this shaving brush should not be made with Silver Tip badger hair vice Deluxe badger hair. I have read elsewhere that a limited edition version of this shaving brush is available with Silver Tip badger hair, but only in the Acqua Di Parma flagship store on Via Montenapoleone in Milan--although I was unable to verify this for myself the last time that I was in Milan.
Nonetheless, I knowingly purchased this shaving brush with Deluxe Badger hair. While the Deluxe Badger hair bristles did not compare favorably to other Silver Tip shaving brushes that I have used over the years from Kent and Edwin Jagger, I thought that the feel and appearance of the handle and what I perceived, initially, as the overall quality of the construction made this a worthwhile purchase. However--as with the accompanying Acqua Di Parma razor--I found that, over a fairly short duration of time, the quality was far less than what I had expected. Specifically, there is a coating over the metal cap at bottom of the handle--as well as over the entire metal stand--that began to peel off in flakes and small pieces. This is completely unacceptable for a product at this price point--and one that carries the Acqua Di Parma brand.
I have since given up on this shaving brush and its accompanying razor, and gone back to a tried and true Silver Tip shaving brush. However, if Acqua Di Parma were to construct all of its shaving brushes with Silver Tip badger hair and correct the aforementioned flaw regarding the metal coating, I think that this has the potential to be a superb shaving brush. I cannot, however, recommend this shaving brush as it is currently constructed.
Outstanding quality & stylish brush if you don't mind the extra $$ Review by George
Recently lost my grooming lounge-brand shaving brush on a trip, and thought I'd give myself a nice upgrade. Given how big of a fan I am of all things Acqua di Parma (everything is of top notch quality), I thought I'd try their shaving brush.
I toyed with it at a Neimann Marcus, then ordered it on grooming lounge with the 15% new account discount.
Comes in a beautiful, elegant gift box, and is hands down the most handsome, elegant & stylish item in my bathroom. Not only is it beautiful to look at, it also feels substantial to hold (unlike the other shaving brushes you'll find elsewhere), doesn't shed one bit (unlike my last brush), and applies the shaving cream evenly on the face.
Probably the best overall (quality, style, elegance, feel & finish) shaving brush out there, if you don't mind paying the extra $.
outstanding quality, handsome brush, if you don't mind the extra $ Review by George
Recently lost my regular Grooming Lounge shaving brush and thought I'd get myself an upgrade. Since I'm a huge Acqua di Parma fan, thought I'd try their shaving brush. Played with it in store at Nieman Marcus and absolutely loved it. Then ordered it with the 15% new account discount on Grooming Lounge.
Absolutely love this thing! It's the handsomest & most stylish thing in my bathroom, and feels amazing both to hold & to shave with. Unlike my previous grooming lounge-brand shaving brush, this one doesn't shed, feels sturdier and applies the shaving cream more evenly on my face.
Highly recommended if you don't mind the extra $$$.
Old-School Review by Andrew
Received as a gift for my birthday from my in-laws, had never used a brush before, but now I'm hooked. Definately an old-school way to shave, and now I'm hooked.
