I used to believe that a shave was just a shave. all you needed was a razor and some soap. All my shaving creams / gels have come from over the counter store brands and they were sufficient for the most part but thankfully my facial hair isn't as thick as some other types. Accidentally I saw a review about products men should be using and I did my homework and thought wow $34 for shave creme... A good thing about being impulsive is you end up doing things you thought you never would and here I am $34 in the hole and so happy I did so.

I purchased the Black Jar. The smell of this shaving Cream is amazing. It smells like the Kyoku face wash. I love how a little bit goes a long way and it's very lubricating. No pre-shave oil required. The only drawback is that it doesn't lather very well with a brush. The description says it can be used with a brush, but I disagree. I tried to lather it with The Art of Shaving Silvertip and Fine brushes and it didn't work. But overall I love this product

All shaving creams are definitely not created equal. I've tried several others (Dermalogica, M+G, GL, Menscience, Lucky Tiger, etc.) and, while this is nearly double the price of all of those, it is undoubtedly the best. I have only tried the "regular" sake-scented version, but am sure that the other is awesome as well. My skin feels invigorated, fresh, the cream rinses cleanly and, most importantly, there is NEVER any irritation, redness, or inflammation. It makes my skin glow. Again, Dermalogica is good as well, but Kyoku is the King/Emperor/Tsar/the best there is. This brand never disappoints; go for it. You'll be happy you bought it.
